SUMMARY of the OSJI Board of Directors Meeting - 12/13/03

1)  It was proposed, seconded and passed that "Interim meetings of the OSJI Board of Directors, Executive Committee and Committee Meetings may be conducted via teleconference at the discretion of the President, subject to the support of the majority of those eligible to vote at any such meeting.  This will not apply to the Annual Meeting.

2)  Vacant positions (due to resignations) on the Executive Committee were filled as follows:  Jim Starcher was elected as the new Director of Operations and Tom Jones was elected as new Director of Law & Legislation.

3)  "OSJI Outstanding Achievement Awards" will be presented for the 2002/2003 time period in the following possible categories: Outstanding Junior, Outstanding Senior, Coach of the Year, Outstanding Official and Outstanding Supporter.   Nomination forms will be distributed to all registered clubs and any member of OSJI requesting a nomination form.  Nominations will be sent to the President who will develop a ballot to be sent to all members of the OSJI Board of Directors.  Ballots will be tallied and the awards given at a banquet the evening of the State Championships.

4)  The club that was going to bid on the 2004 OSJI State Championships is not able to secure a facility so has decided not to enter a bid.  There were no other clubs prepared to submit a bid, so Hannah Starcher will check on the availability of Wayne College in Orville, Ohio and if those facilities cannot be secured, Russ Scherer will check on the Kettering Rec Center.  As soon as a site and date have been verified, preliminary information will be sent out.

5)  A budget was passed for 2004.  It may be modified on a quarterly basis by the Board of Directors.

6)  The Rock & Roll Classic and the Flag City Open were designated again for 2004 as point tournaments (along with our OSJI State Senior and Junior Championships) for the OSJI Traveling Team.

7)  We currently have 12 clubs registered with the OSJI and 197 members.

8)  Everyone was reminded that in order to register a club for 2004, at least one instructor must be certified as a coach or an instructor under a recognized program (USJI, USJA or USJF).  Being a certified referee no longer meets this requirement.  For additional information, please contact Russ Scherer.  You also have to have a minimum of 5 USJI registered athletes in your club.

9)  Background checks are required for all newly certified coaches, instructors and officials.  The USJI is participating in a standard background check program.   For further information, please contact Russ Scherer.

10)  It was moved, seconded and passed that "Athletes will be eligible for funding as long as they are members of, or have applied for membership to, OSJI prior to the start of their division of the event in which they are qualifying for such funding.   This removes the two year membership requirement for funding to the Nationals.
