Code of Ethics
Ohio Judo Incorporation
To better serve the interest of the members of the OJI, a code of ethics has been adopted. The code of ethics is a guideline for members to apply in respect to their participation in the sport of judo.
The code of ethics is set forth so that all members understand that OJI members are expected to conduct themselves in a fashion that brings credit to the sport of judo and our organization.
As a member of OJI, I will
(1) Take every precaution to ensure the safety of fellow practitioners or competitors.
(2) Conduct oneself in a positive manner, and never engaging in unsportsmanlike conduct.
(3) Never attempt to improperly influence any person involved in judging or scoring a competition. I will never try to intimidate or embarrass an official in anyway.
(4) I will treat my fellow club members, other competitors, coaches and officials with respect.
(5) I will never use the skills I develop in judo in ways that would diminish the sport/OJI.
Coaches and officials have even greater responsibilities. As a coaching/officiating member of the OJI I will
(1) Never discriminate in any way. Race, sex, creed, sexual orientation, age, national origin, or mental/physical disability will not be factors in my coaching/officiating decisions.
(2) Never provide alcohol to minors, condone the use of alcohol by minors, or abuse alcohol in the presence of athlete members.
(3) Never engage in sexual relations with a minor; I will never use my position of authority to sexually harass a student who is a member of my club or organization.
(4) I will strive to stay current in my study of judo by attending clinics and seminars.
(5) I will only promote or recommend for promotion students who have successfully completed promotion requirements.
At any time that I may become involved in any situation that could cause embarrassment or harm to this organization or the sport of judo, I agree to voluntarily remove myself from such activities until the situation is resolved.
